There are 6 games right now with IMDb user ratings exceeding 9 out of 10. Do you think Death Stranding 2 has any chance of winning Game of the Year in 2025?

Top Comment: It only has to be a good game. It doesn't have to be a winning game. If you find it fun that's all you really need.

Do you play PC/phone versions of board games?
Main Post:
Do you play computer versions of board games? Maybe you like playing computer games with board game mechanics? Are there many such games that you play online? Maybe the experience is too different for you to play a board game with real people in a real room.
I have always separated these experiences for myself. The games I used to play on the computer are completely different from board games. But not so long ago, I discovered games with deck-building elements, and I constantly get flashbacks when I play them. Something magical happens to me during the game. I also started to like turn-based computer games with tokens on the board. Have you ever felt something similar? I have friends who love board games and don't play computer games at all. And there are those who do the opposite. What about you?
Top Comment: Just played Slay the Spire for the first time. Had no idea it was an adaptation of a video game. Immediately downloaded the app. Both are fantastic.
Convincing seniors that they actually can play new games
Main Post:
I just started working at a senior living facility, and there is a big attitude about how they can’t do any of this complicated stuff anymore. We played left, right, center and that was too childish, we did rummikub and that was too complicated. (They all play cards lmao)
It’s like if they struggle a little then it’s not worth it and takes too much thought.
I’m thinking I need to make cheat sheets for each game, but would that even work?
Are there games that are less logic/problem solving but not mindless. They can complain bit but not the whole game.
I’m at a loss
Top Comment: If you figure out how to make old people in a home not cantankerous misery guts, you'll be the first.
Gateway to strategic games
Main Post: Gateway to strategic games
Top Comment: I hate to say it since it's so overplayed but... Catan works pretty well as a gateway game. Only caveat is that it is probably closer to 2 hours with 6 people unless someone gets lucky.
